Below are the options you have for your Michigan report. Please choose one project and complete it by June 3rd. You are to provide a list of any sources that you use to help you find your information. Wikipedia should not be used as a resource for this report. All the information that you share through your project must be written IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Please be neat and creative when working on your project.
Can Project – To complete this project you must obtain a “coffee can” and fill it with items that tell about Michigan. There will be fifteen items in the can and a typed list will accompany the can that explains each item and why you chose to put it in the can (1-2 sentences for each item). Be creative when you choose the items to assemble in your can. You may draw pictures of items, construct models of items, but you may not print off or copy pictures of these items. Be sure to include your sources at the bottom of the sheet you hand in with your can.
Parade Float – To create this project you must obtain a box. The box should be at least the size of a shoebox, but bigger is better. You are to create and decorate a parade float that tells about the state of Michigan. Cover the box with paper first and then attach drawings and items that correlate to Michigan. Your float should be creative and neat. A typed paragraph (5 sentences or more) must accompany your float that explains your design and its connections to Michigan. Your sources should be included on this sheet as well.
A Famous Michigander – Pick a famous person who has a strong connection to Michigan (was born here, grew up here, worked here, played for a sports team here, etc.) and learn all you can about the person. You will need to read at least one book (50 or more pages) on your person. Your report will be in the form of a written report. Your report should be at least 200 words and contain information about the person’s birth, early life, education, ties to Michigan, and accomplishments. Your report needs to be written in your own words and your sources need to be listed at the end of the report.
Plan a vacation – Choose a location in Michigan, at least 50 miles from Shelby Township, and plan a vacation to that destination. Your trip must be at least three days and two nights. You will report on the trip through the use of a poster board. Included on the poster board must be a small map that shows the location of your destination. You will also need to provide a schedule of what you will do while on your trip. These activities should be unique to the city or town that you picked. You need to find a hotel to stay in while you are on your trip and include that information on your poster board as well. The final portion of your poster board will tell how far you will need to travel to reach your destination and what highways or interstates you will take to get there. Make sure your display on the poster board is neat and carefully planned. Your sources will also be included somewhere on the board. |
